Samsung says you should think of Galaxy Z Fold 7 as a 'trade-off' as it reconsiders S Pen support - 9to5Google

🔍 Summary:

Samsung’s latest foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, showcase significant advancements in design and technology, though they come with their share of compromises. In an interview with Korea’s ET News, Samsung MX Managing Director Kang Min-seok discussed the design choices behind these new models, particularly the controversial absence of S Pen support and other features in the Fold 7. Kang explained that these decisions were intentional to achieve a thinner and lighter device, describing them as necessary trade-offs for the desired slim profile of 8.9mm.

Kang highlighted the redesigned “Armor Flex” hinge in the Fold 7, which is significantly thinner and lighter than its predecessor, contributing to the device’s sleekness while maintaining durability with added titanium. Despite these reductions, the Fold 7 still features a large foldable display and a robust camera system, albeit with a noticeable camera bump.

For the Flip 7, Samsung has implemented high-density circuit boards which allowed for an increase in battery capacity by 300mAh without compromising the phone’s thinner build. Kang expressed confidence in both devices, stating they offer perfected experiences across all aspects.

Both the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are now available for pre-order, with promotional offers including significant trade-in values and free storage upgrades. These models, along with other new Samsung products like the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE and Galaxy Watch 8 series, will start shipping on July 25th.
